Vajpayee lauds American achievements in space

''India looks forward to working closely with America in the spirit of partnership to the mutual benefit of the two nations,'' Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has written to the US President Bill Clinton while greeting him on the anniversary of Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin's stepping on the moon three decades ago.

In a congratulatory message to Clinton, the Prime Minister said that in the millennium, the exploration of new frontiers of space will test human endeavour. "It is my firm belief that in order to derive the fullest benefits from human and other investments, collaboration and cooperation between nations should be the cornerstone of this endeavour," Vajpayee said.

Vajpayee said: ''July 20 is a milestone in humanity's quest to conquer new frontiers of space. On this day, 30 years ago, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin by stepping on the moon, took a giant leap for the mankind the entire nation joins me in greeting the people and the government of the Untied States of America on this anniversary of the historic occasion."
