21 killed, 61 hurt in HP bus mishap

Twenty-one people were killed and 61 others injured when a private bus carrying them rolled down into a 200-foot-deep gorge near Shillai in Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh last night.

While 13 people died on the spot, eight succumbed to their injuries at Poanta hospital, Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police T R Mahajan said today.

Thirteen of the injured were admitted to a hospital at Shillai, 11 at Poanta and 29 at Nahan. Eight of the seriously wounded were taken to the PGI at Chandigarh.

The ill-fated bus carrying 82 people was going from Shillai to Balakoti.

District authorities along with medical teams have rushed to the accident site to launch rescue operations.
