Sasikala served showcause notice

The Enforcement Directorate has issued a show cause notice to Sasikala, a close friend of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha, in connection with the deposit of Rs 60.68 million in the 'nr nr' account in two banks in the state.

The directorate issued the notice in June end after completing the investigation into the matter, in which R Suseela of Penang, a close friend of Sasikala, played a key role, directorate sources said.

Terming it as a routine exercise carried out after the completion of the probe, the sources said since the notice was issued during the last week of June, Sasikala still had time to reply.

Though the sources denied any knowledge about Sasikala's recent secret visit to Delhi, it has assumed significance in the wake of the issuance of the notice.

The sources dismissed as incorrect, reports in a section of the press that Suseela, who could not be served any notice or summons, had recently visited the city.

The directorate was probing the deposit of Rs 30.26 million in the 'nr nr' account in the Abhiramapuram branch of Indian Bank and Rs 30.42 million at the Cheyyar branch of the State Bank of India.
