Four ULFA activists surrender

Four hardcore United Liberation Front Activists surrendered before the authorities while two more were apprehended by the security forces during the last 24 hours, official reports said here today.

Two activists, Jagat Gohain and Abinash Baruah of the underground outfit, surrendered before the Sibsagar district superintendent of police.

Two more did so before the district superintendent of police in Jorhat. The subversives also handed over a large number of incriminating documents contained in a gunny bag.

The army, meanwhile, apprehended an ULFA activist at Bediti Jamguri village in Lakhimpur district. A country-made pistol and some incriminating documents were recovered from him, reports said.

In another joint operation, the security forces busted an ULFA mobile office at Dropang village in the district and nabbed a militant, a report said.

A massive anti-militancy procession was taken out at Rangiya, a railway township in Kamrup distrct to protest against the subversive activities of ULFA and Bodo Liberation Tigers.

The procession was organised jointly by a number of political and non-political organisations.
