Marathi actor Vasant Shinde deadVeteran Marathi film actor Vasant Shinde, who shot into prominence for his humorous roles, passed away at a private nursing home in Pune last night. He was 87. The actor, who had heart problems, was not keeping well for some time. Last night he had breathing problems and was rushed to the nursing home where he breathed his last. Born on May 14, 1912 Shinde, who began working in films from 1946, had acted in about 225 films in a 50-year career. While working in Hindustan Film Company, Shinde was first spotted by Dadasaheb Phalke, thereby launching him in his career. His films include Ganesh Janma, Hanuman Janma, Pedgaonche Shahane, and Thapaddya. Some of his famous plays were Lavani bhulli abhangala, Premsanyas, and Bilandar gaon kalandar. He was conferred the Hublikar, Balgandharva and Kalagaurav awards. His autobiography Vinodvruksh was published last month. UNI |
