Bansi Lal meets 'saviour' Sonia

E-Mail this report to a friend

Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and discussed the political scenario emerging in the state after her party supported his Haryana Vikas Party government.

Senior Congress politician Pranab Mukherjee told reporters after the forty-minute meeting that the two had a "preliminary meeting" and a "final decision will be announced shortly".

He was referring to the future course of Congress-HVP ties.

Sources said Bansi Lal first had a private meeting with Gandhi at her residence. Thereafter, Mukherjee, who is in charge of the Haryana unit of the Congress, joined them.

It was the first meeting between Bansi Lal and Gandhi after the Congress bailed out his government, which was reduced to a minority following the withdrawal of support by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
