Sharief flies to Washington to meet Clinton

E-Mail this report to a friend

American President Bill Clinton, concerned by the dangerous situation in Kashmir, will meet Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief in Washington tomorrow, the White House said today.

The meeting was arranged after Clinton spoke on the telephone with both Sharief and Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Following this, Sharief left Islamabad late tonight for Washington.

Clinton has been pressing Sharief to recall the armed intruders sent by Pakistan into the Kargil sector of Jammu & Kashmir, provoking the current fighting in the territory.

Sharief is accompanied by Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz and Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmed Khan.
