More fuel was added to the controversy over reservations for the appointment of Supreme Court judges with former chief justice of Guwahati high court and former Lok Sabha member Gumanmal Lodha suggesting the formation of a commission to handle appointments of judges of the high court and Supreme Court.

Lodha, who was also the acting chief justice of Rajasthan high court, said the chief justice of the Supreme Court could be the chairman of the commission. He said the commission should lay down the basic norms for the appointment of judges adding that he, however, supported the plea for reservation for women and the backward sections of society.
