Cold wave death toll in UP reaches 133The toll in the continuing cold wave in Uttar Pradesh has gone up to 133 with the death of eight more people on Wednesday. Reports said one person each died in Banda, Chitrakoot, Ferozabad, Noida, Maharajganj, Hamirpur, Kannauj and Pilibhit. Schools remained closed all over the state in view of the extreme conditions. Cold wave conditions also prevailed in parts of the Bihar plateau and the plains of west Uttar Pradesh. Night temperatures were appreciably below normal in Assam, Meghalaya, Orissa, southeast Madhya Pradesh and in parts of Marathwada, Telangana, Rayalaseema, south Tamil Nadu and of south interior Karnataka. They were below normal in Vidarbha, in the remaining parts of Telangana and in parts of southeast Uttar Pradesh and of Kerala. They were appreciably to markedly above normal in Sikkim, the hills of west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, north Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch, and in parts of Gujarat, and were above normal in northwest Madhya Pradesh. They were normal over the rest of the country outside Arunchal Pradesh from where the data were sparse. Rain or snow occurred at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Rain or thundershowers occurred at a few places in Punjab and at isolated places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Very light rain occurred at isolated places in west Rajasthan. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country. Rain or snow is likely at a few places in the hills of west Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Rain or thundershowers are likely at a few places in Haryana and Punjab and at isolated places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the plains of west Uttar Pradesh, north Rajasthan, south Tamil Nadu, south Kerala and Lakshadweep. Mainly dry weather will prevail over the rest of the country.
