SAD suspends Tohra supporter

E-Mail this report to a friend

Akali stalwart and Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee acting president Sukhdev Singh Bhaur was suspended Thursday from the Shiromani Akali Dal on charges of ''indiscipline and anti-party activities.''

A release said the SAD had taken serious note of Bhaur's utterances that appeared in a section of the press on January 20.

The Akali leader has also been served with a show cause notice for his action, returnable in 15 days failing which he would be expelled from the party.

Bhaur, who stood by SGPC chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra in his strife with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, had on January 19 alleged that Badal was acting against the Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikh community.

Bhaur's statement read: ''On the directions of Mr Badal certain people are issuing statements of their choice to create an atmosphere of confrontation against the Akal Takht.''
