By-elections to 11 assembly seats slated for February 22

By-elections to 11assembly constituencies in five states are to be held on February 22 and the notifications for it are to be issued on January 29.

Of these 11 by-elections, as many as eight were a result of death of the candidates while three legislators resigned their seats.

Announcing the poll schedule, Chief Election Commissioner M S Gill said the constituencies include Jetpur and Jodiya in Gujarat, Khallari and Burhampur in Madhya Pradesh, Khuwbung in Mizoram, Sardarpura, Kumbalgarh, Bhim and Mundwa in Rajasthan and Hauz Khas and Nangloi Jat in Delhi.

He said the last date for filing nominations would be February 5, scrutiny would be carried out on February 6. The last date for withdrawal is February 8 and the counting of votes are to begin on February 24.

The CEC said the commission has decided to use electronic voting machines in five constituencies. These include two constituences each in Madhya Pradesh and Delhi and one in Rajasthan.
