Khurana to tell LS about his resignation on Friday

Former Union minister Madanlal Khurana has sought permission from the Lok Sabha speaker GMC Balayogi for making a personal statement in the house on February 26, explaining the reasons behind his resignations from the council of ministers.

Khurana, who sought the permission under rule 199 of the rules and procedures and conduct of business in the Lok Sabha, gave the notice to the speaker around 1045 hours today, Lok Sabha secretariat sources said.

The notice says: ''I propose to make a personal statement in explanation of my resignation from the council of ministers on Friday, 26th February, 1999. I shall forward to you the statement to be made by me tomorrow, February 25, 1999.''

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, meanwhile, is understood to have had an hour-long talk with Khurana yesterday after a meeting with the four BJP members of Parliament from Bihar -- Dr Madan Prasad Jaiswal, Janardhan Yadav, Lal Muni Chobey and Dhirendra Agarwal. Details of the talks were, however, not available.

The four MPs, in support of the issues raised by Khurana, had sent a letter to Vajpayee on February 10, seeking an audience with him.

They are understood to have told the prime minister that Khurana was feeling ''hurt'' and ''humiliated'' by the statements made by some BJP leaders after his resignation from the party's national executive and the council of ministers.

Khurana is planning to make a statement in the Lok Sabha on the reasons behind his resignation. The statement, they pointed out, might have far reaching effects. They had requested Vajpayee to speak to Khurana to assuage his feelings.
