New KPCC president appointed

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has appointed S M Krishna the new president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and set up a 34-member election campaign committee to gear up for the November assembly elections.

This was announced here today by All-India Congress Committee General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad. Krishna, a former Union minister and deputy chief minister, replaces Dharam Singh, who has resigned.

Former AICC general secretary Janardhana Poojary, MP, will be the chairman of the campaign committee. Former speaker Chandra Gowda, former legislative council chairman Rehman Khan, MP, and former minister H Vishwanath are the vice-presidents and former speaker Kaujalji, MLA, the treasurer.

Former Union ministers C K Jaffer Sharief, B Shankaranand, Margaret Alva, Chandrasekhara Murthy, R L Jalappa, former chief ministers S Bangarappa and M Veerappa Moily and former PCC president Dharam Singh are among the 29 members of the campaign committee.

Other members are Rajasekhara Murthy, MP, Mallikarjuna Kharge, H K Patel, K H Ranganath, D K Naicker, V Krsihna Rao, K Mallanna, Hanumanthappa, Shiv Shankarappa, M B Patil, Made Gowda, Chandra Prabha Urs, Prof I G Sanadi, Rani Satheesh, T N Narasimha Murthy, K H Muniappa, MP, Aziz Sait, G Puttaswamy Gowda, Manorama Madhavraj, G Ramakrishna and Basavaraj Patel Anwari.
