Indian groups object to Jamaat-e-Islami's attitude

The Indo-Islamic World Organisation has said Pakistan's Jamaat-e-Islami's opposition to the visit of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is against Islamic tenets.

Syed Abdul Rehman Milli, president of the IIWO, said the Jamaat's protest militates against religious laws because Islamic tenets state that even a visiting enemy ought to be treated with respect.

He said that despite various other problems, Vajpayee had decided to visit Lahore by bus and this could strengthen relations between India and Pakistan.

He said everyone should wholeheartedly support the mission rather than protest against it.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Syeed Noorie, who heads the Raza Academy, said that if Vajpayee is welcomed with black flags, the same treatment will be given to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif when he visits India.

Hazi Nisar Ansari, a spokesperson of the Haj Umrah tours organisation, welcoming the idea of Vajpayee's visit, asserted that it would help normalise relations between the two countries.
