India and Pakistan today signed an agreement for a regular bus service between the two countries.

India's High Commissioner in Pakistan G Parthasarathy signed the agreement on behalf of India while Federal Secretary for Communications Muhammad Akram Sheikh signed on behalf of Pakistan.

Senior officials of the Pakistani communications ministry and foreign office and the Indian high commission were present on the occasion.

The agreement envisages a bus service between Lahore and New Delhi four times a week.

Both sides will operate two buses. The buses, with a capacity of 40 passengers each, will operate from Lahore on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and from New Delhi every alternate day.

Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation will operate the buses from Lahore while the Delhi Transport Corporation will operate the service from India.

The terminal point in Lahore will be the Falettis hotel. In Delhi, it will be the Ambedkar Stadium.

The bus from both ends will start at 0630 hours and the journey will be completed in 12 hours, including stopovers at three different service areas en route.

The border clearance is expected to take 30 minutes.
