People's War blasts 3 policemen to deathThree policemen, including a Special Armed Force company commander, were killed and two injured in a blast triggered by the Naxalites of the People War near Kotkodi village in Madhya Pradesh's Kenker district. The incident occurred on Wednesday and involved the PW's Keshkal dalam (squad). Company commander of the 12th SAF battalion Ram Snehi and constables Ramesh Kumar Sahu and Shyam Singh Rathore were killed. Constables Mohanlal and Charan Singh suffered injuries in the ambush. They have been hospitalised at Kanker. In Bhopal, Home Minister Nandkumar Patel announced in the Vidhan Sabha that the 18-member police team was on its way to Kiskodi, where the Naxalites had murdered a villager on February 1. Patel said the Naxalites, besides using landmines, also fired at the police party. The police returned the fire injuring a guerrilla. Senior police officials have reached the spot and an intensive combing operation is in progress, the home minister said. He said the families of the deceased would be given a compensation of Rs 500,000 each. Leader of Opposition Dr Gauri Shankar Shejwar said the state government should take effective steps to contain the Naxalite violence. UNI
