From Jammu to Kashmir

The Kashmir valley is all set to be included in India's railway map.

Envisaged is a Rs 25 billion project. From Udhampur in Jammu to Baramulla in Kashmir. Land has already been identified for 14 railway stations with the completion of the location survey of the Quazigund-Baramulla portion.

An official spokesman said that tenders for the construction of the Srinagar railway station have been issued. The work would start shortly. According to the plan, the station building will have all modern facilities. It would cost Rs 60 million.

At a meeting attended by state Chief Secretary Ashok Jaitly, railway officials said an additional grant of Rs 200 million would be provided for the acquisition of land in the valley, the spokesman said.
