Vajpayee reallocates portfolios

The much-awaited Cabinet expansion may be deferred yet again

The inference arises from Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's distribution of some portfolios he held to senior ministerial colleagues.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said Information and Broadcasting Minister Pramod Mahajan will take additional charge of the food processing ministry while External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh will look after the department of electronics.

Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, holding additional charge of the department of science and technology, has now been entrusted with the department of ocean development.

Power Minister P R Kumaramangalam, who was given the ministry of parliamentary affairs after Madan Lal Khurana resigned, will now also be in charge of the ministry of non-conventional energy sources.

Minister of State for Agriculture Sompal has been given additional charge of water resources.
