Suspected ISI men held in Bombay

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Bombay police have arrested three Pakistani nationals who were said to be establishing a base of the Inter-Services Intelligence for disrupting communal harmony and fuelling terrorism in the city.

Additional Commissioner of Police (north-west region) Rakesh Maria told reporters that since November the trio had been travelling the Bombay-Karachi-Dubai route.

Their names are: Syed Abbas Husain Zaidi alias Basi (28), Mannan Husain (27), and Rashid Zia (26).

A metropolitan court remanded all three to police custody for 14 days.

Acting on a tip-off and investigations, a police team nabbed the men near Kandivili railway station, in north-west Bombay at 8.20pm yesterday.

All three men hold Pakistani passports with visas that expired two months ago. A 9mm pistol and a revolver were recovered from them.

Maria said all three hail from Karachi and were sent to Dubai by an ISI agent known only as 'Iqbalbhai'. In Dubai they met Anees Ibrahim, brother of gangster and Bombay blasts accused Dawood Ibrahim. They were paid 4,000 dirhams each there. Later, on arrival in India, they were paid Rs 100,000 each.
