Tiwari set to become MP assembly speaker for second term

Senior Congress politician Sriniwas Tiwari will continue as speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha for a second consecutive term.

Tiwari's election became a certainty today, the last day for filing nominations for the post, when the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party did not field a candidate.

Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, Leader of the Opposition Gauri Shankar Shejwar, Bahujan Samaj Party legislature party leader Dauram Ratnakar, and veteran Congress politician and former chief minister Shyama Charan Shukla today filed separate sets of nomination papers on Tiwari's behalf.

The nominations were seconded by Satya Narayan Sharma of the Congress, Babulal Gaur of the BJP, Ashok Vir Vikram Singh of the Samajwadi Party, and Ghanshyam Patidar of the Congress, respectively.

The election of the speaker of the eleventh Vidhan Sabha is scheduled for Tuesday, February 2.
