International university to be set up at Nalanda with Jap aid

E-Mail this report to a friend

The central government is planning to set up an international university at Nalanda, the famous seat of ancient learning, in eastern Bihar.

Defence Minister George Fernandes told newsmen that the human resource development ministry was working out a detailed plan in association with the Japanese government for setting up an international university similar to that of the ancient Nalanda university.

He said several Japanese universities had shown keen interest in the project where students from all over the world could study. This would be the second major project in the home constituency of the defence minister after the ordnance factory.

To a query on the merger of the Samata Party and the Lok Shakti with the Janata Dal-United, he said all the formalities would be completed within January 6 and the coming assembly elections in Bihar would be fought on the JD-U symbol.
