Russia, India sign aviation protocol

E-Mail this report to a friend

India and Russia have signed a new aviation protocol which envisages joint cooperation in the civil and military spheres for the next ten years.

Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Ilya Klebanov announced this yesterday in Moscow. The protocol was finalised by the Russian cabinet and the Indian defence ministry recently.

Under the agreement, India will receive licences for production of various types of Russian civilian aircraft, including IL-114, IL-Gzels and the Tupolev.

The protocol also envisages the supply of the Sukhoi and MiG war planes and naval combat aircraft. These will be produced in India, the deputy prime minister said.

He was also quoted as saying that the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov will be shortly sold to India.

The new deal will enable India to modernise all types of aviation combat equipment, the head of the Russian military-industrial complex said.
