Declare Kannur a disturbed area: BJPA Bharatiya Janata Party parliamentary team has suggested that Kerala's Kannur district, which has been rocked by political violence, be declared a disturbed area so that the central police forces could move in to contain the law and order situation. The four-member team, led by Major General (retired) B C Khanduri, today presented its report to the BJP parliamentary party in New Delhi after an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. Briefing newsmen after an hour-long meeting, party spokesman M Venkaiah Naidu said the team has described the situation in Kerala as ''pretty bad''. There is a complete collapse of the administration in Kannur district, he said. Unless there is a change in the Communist Party of India-Marxist's attitude, the situation is not going to improve, the fact-finding team reported. The CPI-M does not want any other political party to function in the district, the report said. As many as 16 murders have taken place and 800 cases filed against the BJP and other political party workers. The police is partisan and made ineffective by the government intervention, the team alleged. The team has asked the Centre to take a serious note of the situation and launch a political campaign against the Fascist tendencies of the CPI-M, Naidu added. UNI
