Demand to delete Rajiv's name wrong: Joginder Singh

E-Mail this report to a friend

Former Central Bureau of Investigation chief, Joginder Singh, today said that neither the government nor the Central Vigilance Commission could interfere in the Bofors investigation.

He was referring to the demand by Congress leaders that Rajiv Gandhi's name be removed from the charge-sheet.

In an interview to In Time television, Joginder Singh said the CBI was an independent agency which worked on the basis of evidence.

He said the names figuring in the charge-sheet were all correct and the question of their removal did not arise.

The interview is to be telecast tomorrow.

''If the names are removed, it would be incorrect, illegal and unethical,'' he said, and added that ''the Government of India cannot interfere in the process.''
