Jaswant may meet Sharief, Aziz in New York

E-Mail this report to a friend

External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh today hinted that he may meet Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief and Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz during the United Nations General Assembly's annual session in New York, but insisted that an end to cross-border terrorism is a must for meaningful talks with Islamabad.

"If the occasion arises, I will meet Mr Sharief and Mr Aziz in New York in September," he said at his press conference in New Delhi.

Singh said Aziz would be in New York for the General Assembly. "I also received information that Mr Sharief will be there," he said.

But Singh said Pakistan has to give up its support to terrorism in India, as has been made clear to Islamabad several times in the past. Resumption of a normal dialogue is difficult as long as Pakistan encouraged cross-border terrorism, he added.
