Two Pak infiltrators among 9 killed in Kashmir

Alert troops guarding the border foiled a major infiltration attempt by Pakistanis when they killed two heavily armed intruders in Chowkibal while elsewhere in the valley six terrorists and a soldier were killed since last evening.

A defence ministry spokesman said soldiers of the Gorkha Rifles noticed a group of heavily armed infiltrators trying to sneak into India from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir early this morning in Chowkibal area of the northern sector.

When challenged, the infiltrators opened fire on the troops. The soldiers retaliated and the exchange of fire was continuing when reports last came in.

He said two infiltrators were killed by the troops and two AK-56 rifles, 40 electric detonators, six grenades, four remote-control boxes and 178 rounds were recovered.

Reinforcements from nearby posts cordoned off the area.
