The troops returned the fire.

The exchange continued for several hours during which three Rashtriya Rifles men, including Captain Ranvir Kantoch and a JCO, were killed.

One civilian, Rafiq Khan, was also killed in the exchange.

Two Kalashnikov rifles and some ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists.

Meanwhile, terrorists shot dead a shopkeeper, Mohammad Latief Dar, at Sopore in Baramulla district at about 1100 IST today.

The spokesman said terrorists shot at and wounded one Ali Mohammad at Cheerkot, while two persons were injured in a shootout between terrorists and a policeman at Wawoora Lolab in the frontier district of Kupwara late last night.

Some car-borne miscreants looted Rs 38,850 from a government ration depot employee at Firousabad in Batmaloo district last evening, he added.
