E-Mail this report to a friend

At least six people, including five militants, were killed and three others nabbed while the police busted a United Liberation Front of Asom communication centre in separate incidents in Assam during the past 24 hours, official sources said.

Four National Democratic Front of Bodoland militants were killed in an encounter with the police at Napara village of Bongaigaon district last night.

Two China-made pistols with two rounds of ammunition, a hand-grenade and five empty cartridges were recovered from the militants.

A hardcore ULFA militant was shot dead in another encounter with the police at Barpathar in Golaghat district. The militant was a former employee of the police department, sources said.

Suspected Bodo militants shot dead a person at Kutharijhar village in Barpeta district this morning. The victim was identified as one Alauddin Ahmed, sources said.

The police also busted an ULFA office-cum-international publicity centre at Burnihat on the Assam-Meghalaya border following the arrest of self-styled second-in-command of the cultural wing of the banned outfit, Bijoy Phukan.

The police recovered from the centre a high powered VHF set, service book of the ULFA cadres and incriminating documents among other things.
