Five CRPF men injured in mine blast, 2 killed in Kashmir

At least five Central Reserve Police Force personnel were injured, two of them critically, in a mine blast at Nehalpora Pattan while elsewhere in the Kashmir Valley a teacher was among two people killed and three others injured during the past 24 hours.

Official sources said a Jammu and Kashmir police Special Operation Group and Border Security Force search party came under fire at Hyderpora on the outskirts of Srinagar this afternoon. The security forces fired back and the exchange was going on when reports last came in.

An official spokesman said militants detonated a powerful improvised explosive device when a CRPF vehicle reached Nehalpora around 1300 hours this afternoon. Five CRPF personnel were injured, two of them seriously, he revealed and added that the injured have been admitted to hospital.

Another blast was reported from Veerinag Garden in south Kashmir this afternoon. However, nobody was injured. Militants fired upon one Firdous Ahmad at Nawabazar around 1430 hours today. He escaped unhurt but his grandmother was injured.

The official spokesman said unidentified militants entered the house of Bashir Ahmad, a school teacher and shot him dead at Noorabad in Pulwama late last night. He said militants fired upon one Abdul Ahad at Ganderbal late last night. However, his guards returned the fire. No one was injured.

One jawan was injured in a militant attack on a an army post at Baljarian while one Abdul Rashid sustained bullet wounds in a shootout between militants and security forces at Machipora last evening.

The spokesman said militants entered the house of one Mohammad Bashir Khan at Dhara and shot him dead late last night. One militant was arrested and two grenades, one magazine and eight rounds confiscated, while another surrendered with one AK rifle and ten rounds at Kupwara last evening.

A report from Baramulla said some unidentified gunmen entered the house of a person at Iqbal Colony and looted cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 300,000 late last night.
