E-Mail this report to a friend

At least two girls were killed when Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked artillery and mortar shelling from across the border in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir early this morning.

Official sources said that a woman was also injured in the shelling targeted at civilian and military installations.

Some shells fell near houses in Dardkote killing five-year-old Sakeena and three-year-old Safeena.

Sources said one Shakeela sustained splinter injuries at Kamalkote in the same sector.

One shell fell on the house of one Mohammad Hussain causing severe damage. The inmates escaped unhurt though three animals were killed.

Pakistani troops have intensified shelling in Uri, Gurez and other areas after the Kargil conflict.
