Bombs defused, catastrophe averted

E-Mail this report to a friend

Prompt action by the army and railway staff led to the timely defusion of two powerful bombs kept by suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland militants on a broad gauge rail bridge west of Kaithalkuchi railway station in Nalbari district of Assam last night.

Official sources today said a party of gangmen noticed suspicious objects attached to the bridge at about 2310 hours yesterday, whereupon they informed the police.

Immediately, the area was cordoned off by security forces and a bomb disposal team of 21 Mountain Division from Rangiya was rushed to the place. The team defused two plastic jerrycans filled with 12 kilograms each of ammonal high power explosives and fitted with electronic detonators, the sources added.
