205 militants lay down arms in Assam

A total of 205 militants including those belonging to the United Liberation Front of Asom and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland have laid down arms before the authorities in different districts in Assam, an official report said.

They have also deposited a large number of arms including 41 sophisticated weapons, 557 rounds of ammunition and 22 pieces of explosives.

Of the surrendered militants, 178 belong to the ULFA.

Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta praised the surrendered militants for giving up violence and returning to the path of normal life on Sunday.

In a statement, the chief minister hoped that united efforts of the youths and women would carry the problem-ridden state towards development.
