Blast kills four in Jammu and Kashmir

At least five policemen were killed and 15 others injured in two incidents in Udhampur district of Jammu region early this morning.

A van carrying a police team, headed by Station House Officer Vikram Singh, to Chenani, where an encounter had taken place earlier in the morning, was blown up by militants when it was crossing Tusar nullah in the Sudhmahadev area. Four of the police team - Ravi Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Shail Singh and another unidentified policeman - died on the spot.

The SHO and 11 policemen were injured. The injured were admitted to a hospital in Udhampur and the condition of some of them was stated to be critical, sources said.

Earlier, an encounter took place between militants and the Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir police at Sarar Latti village in Chenani area, about 80 km from Udhampur. Head constable, Krishan Chand, was killed and three others were injured during the skirmish that lasted over four hours.
