Militants attack army camp, 3 soldiers killed

Even as the authorities sounded a general alert in Jammu and Kashmir, militants attacked yet another army camp and ambushed an army patrol killing five soldiers. Fifteen others including two officers were wounded in the incidents.

Police sources said militants attacked a Rashtriya Rifles camp at Mansbal in Barramullah district during the wee hours today killing three soldiers. Eight others were injured in the incident.

An army patrol was ambushed by militants at village Dewar in Lolab in Kupwara district killing two soldiers while seven others including a junior commissioned officer were wounded.

The injured have been rushed to Srinagar for treatment.

Security has been tightened and an alert sounded in the valley on the eve of Independence Day. Troops have taken positions across the valley to maintain law and order.
