EC keeps JD's symbol in 'safe custody'

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Election Commission today ''kept in safe custody'' the symbol of the Janata Dal, the Chakra (wheel), which was reserved for the undivided party.

In an interim order, the EC today decided to grant ad-hoc recognition of the two factions of the Janata Dal, headed by former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and Sharad Yadav as national political parties.

The two splinter groups have been asked to submit a list of three symbols in order of preference so that one each could be allotted to them for contesting the coming Lok Sabha elections.
