JD-Gowda to share seats with
BSP, CPI-M in Karnataka

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Janata Dal (Gowda group) will contest all the 28 Lok Sabha seats and 224 assembly seats in Karnataka in alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party and the CPI-M.

Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda told reporters at his residence in New Delhi today that he was holding talks with the BSP chief, Kanshi Ram, on the number of seats each party would contest.

Parrying a question on the total number of seats his party would contest in the Lok Sabha elections, Gowda said the list of candidates would be announced before August 15.

The party would have an alliance with the CPI in Maharashtra. Asked about other states, he said he was confining himself to Karnataka on the issue.

On the symbol controversy, party secretary general, Bapu Kaldate, expressed the hope that the Election Commission would recognise the group as the real Janata Dal.

He said his party had submitted a list of 410 national executive comittee members to the commission.

On the other hand, the list of Sharad Yadav group had the names of about 360 members, of which 157 did not find place on the official Janata Dal list of national executive committee members, Kaldate alleged.
