Shatrughan Sinha to campaign for KhuranaFilm actor Shatrughan Sinha will campaign for former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana, who is seeking re-election from the Delhi Sadar constituency. Announcing this at a press conference, Sinha said he would devote his time to ensure that Khurana won the election. The Rajya Sabha member denied that he had any differences with the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership. "I was in the BJP, I am in the BJP and will remain in the BJP," he said. He was confident that the BJP and its allies would come back to power with Atal Bihari Vajpayee as prime minister. The deft handling of Kargil issue has proved Vajpayee's capability, and there is no parallel to him in the country today, he said. Asked if he would campaign only for Khurana, Sinha's answer was that he considered Khurana his elder brother and therefore would put in all his efforts to ensure his victory. He would, however, campaign for others as assigned by the party, provided there was time. Khurana, also present at the press conference, said the BJP would win all the seven seats in the metropolis as the people had realised the Congress's hollowness. He reiterated his challenge to Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dixit for a public debate on the achievements of her government in the past eight months. He said that she did not have even a single achievement to mention during her tenure. The people, Khurana continued, were very disenchanted with the Congress, what with soaring vegetable prices and scarcity of water and electricity. Khurana said he would expose the Congress for thrusting election after election on the people. This party was responsible for pulling down many governments, deceiving Chandra Shekhar, H D Deve Gowda and I K Gujral. In an effort to grab power it had even encouraged the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhgam to bring down Vajpayee. On the other hand, the BJP, having been a responsible opposition earlier, had allowed P V Narasimha Rao to run his minority government for full five years, he said. UNI |
