E-Mail this report to a friend

A city court has issued summons to Samata Party leaders Jaya Jaitley, Balraj Kumar and Anil Hegde for allegedly making a forced entry into Priyanka Vadra's residence in February 1997. They have been asked to appear in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate V K Khanna on September 24.

According to the chargesheet, about 150 Samata Party workers led by the three accused had collected in front of Priyanka's residence at 35 Lodhi Estate on February 8. They were supposed to sit outside peacefully, but forcibly entered the premises shouting slogans.

The additional station house officer of Tughlak Road police station warned the demonstrators, but the officers on duty were pushed back and obstructed in the discharge of their duties, the chargesheet said.

Charges under sections 186 (obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties), 353 (assault), 448 (house trespass) and 341 (wrongful restraint of a person) of the Indian Penal Code have been levelled against the three accused.
