Bedlam in Bihar Assembly, member suspended

E-Mail this report to a friend

Bedlam in the Bihar Assembly today forced Speaker Deo Narayan Yadav to suspend a member who burnt a placard in the well of the house.

Chaotic scenes in the house in the wake of opposition party members seeking to raise various issues at the same time forced the speaker to adjourn the house before lunch without transacting any business on the second day of the monsoon session.

The disturbances continued even after the house reassembled after 45 minutes of adjournment, when the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal member Sahadev Paswan demanded punishment for a police official for alleged misbehaviour. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ramchandra Purvey responded by announcing the police official's suspension.

This prompted CPI leader Ambika Prasad to demand similar action against another official, who had allegedly insulted his party legislator Arjun Ram in Buxar district. He kept on repeating the demand even after refusal by the speaker to allow him to speak. The opposition raised a ruckus forcing the speaker to adjourn the house for a second time.
