DMK reaches agreement with allies on seat-sharing

E-Mail this report to a friend

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam today reached a seat-sharing agreement with its allies -- the Pattali Makkal Katchi and the Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress, allotting the two parties seven and two Lok Sabha seats respectively.

Chief Minister and party president M Karunanidhi said the agreement was reached after 'smooth and cordial' talks at the DMK headquarters in Madras this morning.

The constituencies allotted to the two parties were: Mayiladuturai, Chidambaram (scheduled caste), Wandawasi, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Chengalpattu, Rasipuram (SC), Salem and Pondicherry.

According to PMK sources, Salem and Rasipuram (SC) were likely to be allotted to the TRC.

The PMK had won four of the five seats it had contested in the last elections. TRC president Vazhapadi K Ramamurthy had won from Salem, the only seat contested by his party last time.

In today's talks, the DMK was represented by Karunanidhi, party general secretary K Anbazhagan, treasurer Arcot N Veerasamy and the PMK by its founder-leader S Ramadoss and party president G K Mani.
