Heat wave toll in MP reaches 5

Five people have lost their lives in the heat wave sweeping Madhya Pradesh this season.

Three deaths were reported from Raipur division, where the maximum day temperature was 45.4 degree Celsius Wednesday. The rest came from Gwalior division.

A report from Raipur said a fruit vendor died at the railway station. Another death occurred at Mana camp. A woman from Durg, being brought for treatment to Raipur, died on the way.

Heat wave conditions prevailed in the Chhattisgarh region. Raipur recorded the highest temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius.

Severe heat wave conditions also prevailed in parts of Bihar plateau.

Heat wave condition also prevailed in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, in some parts of interior Orissa, the plains of west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and in remaining parts of Bihar and east Uttar Pradesh.

Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in parts of Manipur, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim, the hills of west Uttar Pradesh and of north Tamil Nadu and were above normal in parts of Saurashtra and Kutch.

They were appreciably below normal in Assam and Meghalaya and were below normal in parts of south interior Karnataka.

They were normal over the rest of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and coastal and north interior Karnataka from where the data were sparse.

Rain or thundershowers occurred at many places in Assam and Meghalaya, at a few places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at isolated places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country.
