E-Mail this report to a friend

An enhanced compensation of Rs 3.50 lakh will be released to the next of kin of 74 victims of the 1984 riots within a week, officials said in New Delhi today.

The 74, out of 112 pending cases, were cleared by a screening committee at a meeting. The payment will be made by the concerned deputy commissioner concerned.

The officials said payment would be released to a few cases on production of succession certificates. About 21 cases could not be considered by the screening committee for want of complete documents and verification.

The cases were considered on the basis of recommendations made by SDMs/deputy commissioners concerned and reports obtained from the police and prosecution department.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit assured that her government would clear all pending cases and was committed to their rehabilitation.
