Chautala blames Congress for untimely elections

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Indian National Lok Dal today assailed the Congress for creating political and economic instability in the country by forcing untimely elections in its "unprincipled and mindless pursuit of power".

In a statement, INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala described the Congress as an "opportunist and single-most destabilising force of the Indian polity". He said the Congress was solely responsible for putting a burden of Rs 100 billion on the Indian economy.

"We are a developing country and we just cannot afford elections every 13 months," he said, and called upon the electorate to teach a suitable lesson to the Congress for sabotaging the people's mandate.

Chautala said the Congress today stood exposed and showed its political bankruptcy, having failed in getting a single leader of Indian origin to lead the party.

He said the INLD's stand taken in the confidence vote had been vindicated. He said his party would continue to fight for the downtrodden and backward classes of the society. "Only we can safeguard the rights of the common man in general and farmers in particular."
