25 Ranvir Sena activists arrestedAt least 25 suspected supporters of the banned Ranvir Sena have been arrested so far in connection with the massacre of 12 residents of Sandani village under Belaganj police station in extremist-dominated Gaya district in central Bihar on Wednesday night. Director General of Police T P Sinha told reporters in Patna that combing operations have been intensified in the extremist-infected areas of the state. A strict vigil is being maintained and night patrolling has been stepped up. A special watch is also being kept on the vulnerable areas of the central and southern parts of the state. Meanwhile, a report from Darbhanga said the Rapid Action Force staged a flag march in the town to restore confidence among the people in view of the Muharrum processions. Meanwhile, the Bihar unit of the BJP will hold dharnas (sit-ins) at all district headquarters in the state on Monday to demand the resignation of Chief Minister Rabri Devi for her government's alleged failure to safeguard the life and property of the common people. Party unit spokesperson Kiran Ghai said in a statement in Patna that party workers would protest against the "ongoing caste war" and demand a solution to the problem of extremism. Holding both the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress responsible for the recent spurt in extremist incidents, she said the problem could have been solved much earlier if the state government had been sincere. But the RJD politicians, she said, are more interested in national politics than solving crucial local issues. UNI |
