'Admiral Bhagwat is no Rommel and let him not try to be one'

Nice interview. I had no idea this was where I was going to find it. Just for the record I am not the youngest MP in Parliament. In fact another guest at that memorable tea party, Omak is a full year younger and if I am not mistaken there is a lady from the Samajwadi Party who is all of 25 or 26.

Best wishes.

Omar

PS: Thanks for the compliments - they do wonders for the fragile male ego.

Subject: Bhagwat and court martial

Admiral Bhagwat's statement that Hitler treated his generals better shows his utter lack of military history. Hitler had Field Marshall Rommel assassinated and covered it as an accident. His fault -- Rommel's love for Germany and his opposition to Hitler. Admiral Bhagwat is no Rommel and let him not try to be one. Bhagwat's behaviour leads one to believe his lack of respect for the sacred institution of democracy.

This is in reference to Bhagwat's comment "...during the times of great dictator Hitler, admirals and generals were not sacked like this..."

Actually, he is right. During Hitler's time, generals were not sacked. They were assassinated. Remember Rommel? I don't think he should refer to Hitler, and neither should he use the adjective "great" before his name.

The story carried on the net has weight. Admiral Bhagwat is right. What the BJP government should have understood is that there is rule of law in this country. If the defence minister wanted action against the admiral, an opportunity should have been afforded to him to explain. Merely the suspicions that the admiral would have gone to court does not absolve the defence minister and the government of the onerous duty to discharge functions in accordance with provisions and rule of law. I feel the defence minister and the government has exceeded their power to withdraw the pleasure of the president. Hitler's reference is appropriate. The defence minister must reveal the 'treason' factor in this case, to the whole nation. In any case if the defence minister and the government are to be believed, the enemies already know what the admiral may have leaked out. Why hide it from the people of this nation? A trial must be conducted by the people of this nation and not just five ministers of a minority government who are totally unaware and untrained in military matters.

Alleged tempering with the ACR is not treason. The admiral should have been questioned about it. It's good that you have given coverage to the admiral's point of view. I trust you will continue to do the same in future. The nation must know and decide, not just a few of them. It concerns national security and not just that of the defence minister alone. The Vajpayee government should understand that a constitutional authority such as the naval chief is nobody's personal servant but the servant of the Constitution. Where has the admiral failed in the discharge of this constitutional duty has to be unearthed and told to the subjects of this nation.

I can't believe he was heading C-DOT and telecom vision in our country. After reading his interview, one will be an idiot to invest in his venture. The guy doesn't have vision or business plans. For most of the questions he responds: 'we will see.' And thinks people will invest. I don't think he is here to stay.

Doubting Thomas is an interesting article. It is better to give such articles as headlines than Aishwarya's picture. I think you guys have an important role in shaping people's mind, outlook and growth. Let's be a part in building a good country.

Please make Prem Panicker read this article so that his immature and amateurish assault on Azhar is vindicated. It's high time Panicker read a little bit of the Peter Roebuck and Ian Chappel columns written in the last few years to learn how to be a critic in the true sense of the word. But alas, it's it is expecting too much from an only emotional cricket enthusiast that he is.

The sooner Rediff does away with him, the better. But then you will not do it simply because reactions will help your site. And that is what Panicker gets. Not analysis.

Considering the present form of the team I don't see any chance of India winning the World Cup unless some miracle happens. The best thing we can do is to change the captain, manager and take in some new faces so that we can at least win the next World Cup, but we surely need to get rid of Azharuddin.

You did a good job in covering the movie made in 24 hours. I have been reading Rediff's articles on Tamil movies/screen. I am pretty sure that whoever writes them does not know much about Tamil movies. Your reviews are usually outdated. The fourth photo should read 'Pritha Vijayakumar' and not 'Roja.

Can't you hire someone from Tamil Nadu, Madras to cover Tamil films? For instance I can write a better review by going through sites like Dinakaran sitting here in the US. Please take this mail in the right sense. Your site's standard is very good. Only reviews on Tamil movies/south screen are pathetic.

Is this article cool or what? I would love to have Karisma at some party. Only thing is that I might be 80 by the time I save enough to pay her!

Keep it up!

Terrific review! I dare say -- probably much more entertaining than the movie itself!
