'Jaya should realise she is not a king maker'

Subject: Cabinet rejects AIADMK demands

This is certainly breaking news and I would certainly like to read some more news from Chennai after Jayas' meeting. Some inside story on Jaya's strategies. I would also like to know the BJP's post-Jaya numbers -- like how many they have after excluding the AIADMK MPs and which party they are planning to break to prove their majority on the floor of the House. Some detailed analysis and breaking news on this would be highly appreciated.

Subject: Jayalalitha

It is a shame that in the 50 years of democracy we have elected leaders like Devi Lal during the earlier Janata regime, Sitaram Kesri during the later Janata regime and now we have Jayalalitha -- who wants to pull down another government because it will satisfy her ego. She does not care about democratic norms and public morality.

These leaders and their parties should be politically boycotted. They should not be used for short-term gains.

Subject: Union Cabinet rejects Jaya's demands; crucial AIADMK meet today

The BJP has finally decided to salvage what is left of its dignity and deal with its problem. Jaya should realise she is not a king maker. If anything, she is just another politician facing trial. I vote for fresh elections.

The article by Arti Dwarkadas is superb both in the style and stuff. It exposes to the hilt the hollowness of the two ladies' political misadventures. It also calls the bluff of the self-proclaimed pillars of the fourth estate, namely the capital's media corps.

I, a sexagenarian journalist in Tamil language, offer my encomium to Arti for this fine piece with a request to you to provide more and more of these specials on your web page.

Subject: Sonia gets the jitters over government-formation

Do you know what 'mercurial' means and in what context is it used? Going by the tone of the article, it's ridiculous to use such words for people like Laloo and Mulayam. Kindly refrain from using words just because they sound fancy or bombastic. Understand the meaning. Below is a text from your article:

"Sonia fears the RLM, led by the mercurial leaders like Laloo Prasad Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav, who command a strength of 37 MPs in the Lok Sabha, could make governance impossible for the Congress leadership."

Subject: Sonia gets the jitters over government-formation - George Iype

Sonia has again demonstrated that she is "penny wise and pound foolish."

If at all she is as wise as the media puts it - she should realise her responsibility and act in the interest of the nation. We don't need another mid-term poll in the near future! All this makes one feel that in the experiments with democracy we have failed miserably! Further decentralisation might help in fostering a sense of competition in the federal set-up and lead to economic growth of the various states.

Good news at last! If the AIADMK withdraws support and the BJP carries on, it can finally attend to administration instead if scurrying to Chennai to pamper Amma. If the BJP government falls, at least it will bring an end to this farce. For the country, it's a win-win situation. Hopefully, there are no more 'coalition dramas' at the expense of the common man.

I personally think that the BJP has taken the right decision in not submitting to the AIADMK's demands. The BJP cannot be threatened by Jayalalitha every time. We are proud of their decision.

This move by Jayalalitha could be a huge blessing in disguise, if small opposition parties like Karunanidhi's DMK et al would support the BJP on the floor of the House -- leading to the expeditious trial of Jayalalitha.

Subject: Sigh of relief if Sonia takes over!

To say that if Jayalalitha joins hands with Sonia, the new Congress government will just be like the Vajpayee government will be travesty of the facts. Because, such a Sonia government will not be able to take even those daring decisions which Vajpayee took. I mean, decisions like Pokhran, IT policy, Cauvery, IRA/Patents bill etc. With support of the Left parties, the Congress government will be worse than even that of Narasimha Rao. Let's not compare it with the cleanest and most decisive government of the decade, ie, the Vajpayee government.

Once the Congress government comes to power, we'll have to say goodbye to Agni II, till the next BJP government comes to power. A Congress government taking over at this juncture is the best thing happening to the BJP. Even a Congress supported-UF government will help the BJP in the next elections.

Subject: Vajpayee's 'friendly' enemies by Monu Nalapat

It was an excellent article. I have similar thoughts as those projected in the article. It would be nice if the article is published in a major newspaper in India so that the prime minister can take note of it. We have this heritage where most eminent professionals are not chosen for the right jobs, instead some unqualified, inexperienced people come and make mockery of the situation which affects the future of the country.

"It will (to put it mildly) be difficult to persuade Beijing to stop the transfer of nuclear and missile technology to Islamabad"

Are you joking? There is nothing India can do to prevent that from happening. As long as India continues its cultural ties with Tibet, China will continue to keep Pakistan as a client state. That also ensures Pakistan's quiet cooperation while China completes its ongoing absorption of Muslim Xinjiang.

We've tried being friends with China once. Look where it got us. The average Indian will never forget or forgive China for what it did to us and to Tibet for the next one thousand years.

There is only one road for India: Be strong, Be rich, Be free. And that will have to happen in spite of China, not in cooperation with it. I believe it may happen in cooperation with the West, though, as China begins to displace American influence throughout Asia over the next fifty years.

Compliments. This is by far the best analysis I have read in the otherwise fawning coverage of the stage-managed tea party. One only hopes that the 115-year-old Congress party with many 'stalwarts' in their ranks will allow itself to be taken for a ride by an upstart actress heading a motley crowd. The Congress party should ponder as to what price former prime ministers Rajiv Gandhi, Chandra Shekhar, Narasimha Rao and Vajpayee had to pay for aligning with this paranoid 'politician.' No one will pity Sonia Gandhi if same fate haunts her.
