Congratulations! Good find. There was a major gamma ray burst reported just last week, and apparently it was too big to be missed out. Check out the details at http://www.cnn.com/TECH/space/9903/25/space.gamma.reut/index.html Rediff should report more Indian science news like this.

It rings a bell that Bhargavi may be one of my old classmates. I was wondering if you knew more details about her for me to confirm for sure that she was one of my classmates.

You should not forget that the bus diplomacy was between Vajpayee and Sharief, the Pakistani army refused to be a part of that celebration. They are a militant and independent power in a violent torn, ungovernable Pakistan. Sharief is dependent on them. You should not leave any stone unturned to protect India's borders.

You should also work with Israel and Indian intelligence services to support the independent movement in Baluchistan and Pashtunistan and to set up trained Hindu settlements in the Hindu kingdom of Kashmir. You should also aggressively support those independent movements by all means and insist that Pakistan must consider those issues when and if Kashmir is discussed by Vajpayee.

Subject: ICQ

This is a great article with good tech insight. I appreciate you for providing useful information for lots of ICQ users, but providing links to those hack sites does not serve your intended purpose. Instead it encourages novice would be crackers to try and experiment more on that. You should have better off providing the info and links to sites which give information on how to secure your system from such attacks. I hope in future you won't provide links to hack sites which will encourage would be crackers.

Do you know if it is legal to advertise or announce the list of hacking sites? This article basically educates people about how to hack by giving them info about the tools etc. Do you think this is good? If you cannot prevent hacking, do not educate people how to hack.

Subject: Azhar and his fortuitous injury

When you wrote a fairly negative article on Azhar's captaincy not too long ago I had agreed with you completely. Of late Azhar has done nothing to motivate the team; and, worse, he's done nothing as a player either. If anything, he's been a liability in the middle order, occupying a crucial spot that could go to a much better middle-order batsman/all-rounder. So his shoulder injury, in my mind, is a boon for the Indian team. Look how well Khurasiya played when coming in for Azhar. Had Azhar played this match, I'm pretty sure we'd have lost it! As far as I'm concerned the longer Azhar's shoulder injury keeps him out of action the better for the team. Here's to an Azhar-less World Cup team!

In the article 'Wipeout' it was stated: "SL must have been pretty happy that Ajay Jadeja was leading the side with Azharuddhin out with an injury."

I am very sure they wouldn't have been happy since Azhar was out. If Azhar was in the team, the team played with only 10 players (Azhar doesn't make any difference). But since Azhar was out, they got the 11th player Amay Khurasia who made a huge difference to the side.

Remember the 1992 World Cup in Australia in which Captain Allan Border aggregated around 40 runs in 10 matches. Same is going to be the case with Azhar. India has to play with only 10 players in the World Cup if Azhar leads the team.

Subject: Azhar rested for next two games

I only have one thing to say, "Unlike tennis, cricket does not need non-playing captains" and Azhar should realise it. India is deprived of a middle-order batsman due to Azharuddin. Is there any captain who is as reckless/irresponsible as Azhar today? Forget performing under pressure, our captain cannot even perform when the top three batsman have given India a dream start.

Azhar invariably throws his wicket where he could have easily salvaged his prestige by remaining undefeated towards the end of an innings. Agreed, if he was dismissed to a blinder catch or to an almost unplayable Akram or Akhtar express.

Azharuddin is the odd man out among the likes of Steve Waugh, Hansie Cronje, Arjuna Ranatunga, Alistair Campbell, Stephen Fleming. Azhar today is only a shadow of himself. He can slap me and several other cricket buffs having the same opinion by winning the '99 World Cup. Unfortunately, even a true patriot will agree that we have a tough pool. Needless to say, at the minimum we can hope that India qualifies in the three teams of its group before we think any further.

Azhar's comments before and after a match are just disgusting. "Our boys did not bat/bowl/field well, the boys did not ....., our boys should ...." Before the Chennai Test against Pakistan, he even went to the extent of saying that Ramesh will be making his debut tomorrow and that he expected him to score a century. It's good that Ramesh did not retaliate back saying, 'And I expect you to get into double figures or not to get out fishing outside the offstump'.

God, I have stopped reading his comments match after match. A player with no cricketing brain. Yes, he 'was' highly talented and when on song would even give Sachin a run for his money. But those days are gone and the only way he can save Indian cricket is by saving 20-odd runs in the field, taking catches that comes his way, scoring 30-odd runs without surrendering his wicket to the opponents.

It's a different question that he will always go down as India's most luckiest captain. Azhar, don't you have any sense of shame or remorse?

Subject: The Manoj Bajpeyi interview

Garbage. Infuriates me with the notion that Rama is a wimp in South India. Are you even saying this Mr Nandy?

Nandy is absolutely wrong when he says the South considers Rama a wimp and Ravana a hero. Ravana may be worshipped by a few, but that does not give him the authority to brand the entire South as Ravani-worshipping, while in truth Rama is a hero for us all. It is unfortunate that a person of his stature pronounces such irresponsible statements. He should get his facts clear before shooting off.

Is Pritish Nandy insane? Stop making such irresponsible statements against Rama. Let him first understand the facts. Rama is considered a hero and a god in the entire South, and people hold him in high esteem like the people from North. Ravana is not a hero anywhere in the world not even in Sri Lanka. Remember the condemnation TN Chief Minister Karunanidhi received sometime back when he praised Ravana which hurt the sentiments of the people? Pritish should think twice before making such absurd and offensive statements.

Frankly, I am disgusted to see the interview covering only the fights and quarrels. We have heard too many rumours in the past. Please ask what Lata likes, her views of famous people of her time, her philosophy, her best songs, her charity, how she is planning to spend her wealth, her views on royalty and intellectual property rights, what record companies do now and in the past etc. We want to know everything positive and inspiring about her all facets. We are not here to judge her. We don't have that capability.
