E-Mail this report to a friend

Seven militants were killed by government troops in Baramulla and Anantnag districts since Wednesday evening.

A defence ministry spokesman said troops, on a tip-off about militants, cordoned off village Laripora in the south Kashmir district of Anantnag. When house to house searches were on, the militants opened fire. The security personnel tightened the cordon and retaliated. In the encounter, three militants were killed. Three AK rifles and one wireless set were recovered.

A search party came under heavy fire at Draggam near Pattan in the north Kashmir district of Baramulla late Wedesday night. Troops retaliated and the exchange continued till Thursday morning. Four militants were reported killed.

Further details were awaited, the spokesman said.
