Laloo's Front dares BJP to dismiss Rabri through Parliament

The National Democratic Front (Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha) today dared the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government to move a resolution in the Lok Sabha to clamp President's rule in Bihar instead of sending its recommendation to the President for the second time.

The Front comprises the Rashtriya Janata Party of Laloo Prasad Yadav and the Samajwadi Party of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Citing the statements of Commerce Minister Ramakrishna Hegde, Trinamool Congress president Mamata Banerjee, and Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Front spokesman Amar Singh said the coalition itself was divided on the issue. Therefore, the government would not be in a position to get the approval of even the Lok Sabha. (The coalition is in a minority in the Rajya Sabha.)

Singh was reacting to BJP leaders' statements that the Union Cabinet would send its recommendation to the President again, leaving him with no option but to give his assent.

Such a course of action would lead to a serious constitutional crisis, Singh warned. Yesterday's countrywide protest against the Centre's move was peaceful, but the Front could not guarantee it again, he said.

If the BJP government has any sense of shame, it should resign forthwith, he said.

He said all secular parties would organise a vijay parv (victory festival) on Vijayadashami Day (October 1) to celebrate "the defeat of evil forces".
