OBCs demand bigger share of BJP poll tickets in RajasthanThe Rajasthan unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party's other backward classes cell has urged the party to field members of its group for 65 of the 200 seats of the state assembly that goes to the polls in November. Talking to reporters in Jaipur, the convenor of the cell, former minister Kalu Lal Gurjar, said they had identified assembly constituencies in the state where "capable" candidates belonging to the OBC category were available and hoped they would get tickets. The cell urged the state government to reserve seats for OBC students in professional courses like medicine and engineering. It also demanded that an OBC development corporation be set up to provide facilities and concessions similar to those available to people of the scheduled castes and tribes. Gurjar said the cell had appointed district convenors in 19 of the state's 32 districts and the rest would be in place by the month-end. Divisional and district-level conventions of the cell will be held throughout the state next month. UNI |
